Inspired by found antique industrial artifacts that dot the deserts and mountains of the Western United States, Getting Your Bearings is a kinetic wind sculpture that is monumental in size, whimsical in style, and antique in appearance. Three steel and stainless steel paddle wheels turn effortlessly in the wind creating an overhead kaleidoscope of light and shadow. The rusted steel tree-like base looks as though it is growing out of the desert soil and reaching for the sky. At the event, this sculpture became a popular place for people to Zen-out, relax, and get their bearings. Note: This sculpture was made possible in part through a Burning Man honorarium art grant.
